Rose Headbands and Rose Pins

Well I have finally gotten around to adding some new items to my etsy shop!!  I am so excited!  Not only do these headbands fit on me, but also my 3 year old daughter!!  Aren't they cute?!!
I can make them in practically any color and as for the bands themselves I am offering them in either plastic "toothed" or nylon coated.
The plastic toothed are available in brown or black.
The nylon cloth covered headbands are available in a creamy white, black, brown or a dark navy blue.
Just send me a e-mail at carrie.buggiesews{at}aol.com and I can make you any addition that you may request!
(above)  See how cute they look on little girls!!!  Especially ones that LOVE to be fairies & princesses!!!

I also added these lovely ladies!....
These are single rose pins.  Aren't they adorable?!!  The above picture is of my fall collection of colors, but again, if there is a color you like that is not there, like pink or turquoise, I can still make them for you.  Just email me at carrie.buggiesews{at}aol.com, and I will make you what you like!! ;)
I can also put a alligator clip on the back if you do not want a pin.  These would look great on lapels, scarves, at the top of plain flats (shoes) or my favorite is to add them to a purse! (as seen below)
Cute huh??!!  I really hope you love them like I do!

Again, thanks for stopping by!!

Trip To Dorney Park in Allentown, PA

It has probably been 15 more or less years since I had been to Dorney Park, and boy how I had missed it!  They new coasters that they have are awesome...per my husband & neice.  (Sorry, Dorney Park, but this Momma keeps her feet on the ground!)

We arrived at the park around mid-day so the crowds were not too bad at all, which is great, especially when you have a 3 year old to wheel around! But we all had a blast.  And the Halloween Decorations were fabulous!
For Halloween, Dorney Park features The Age of Darkness which is held on select Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.  We of course did not attend that event, again, not age appropriate for my 3 year old.  But the rides and setups looked pretty cool.

Of course I could not leave there without taking photos of their gorgeous hanging baskets!  Look at these sweet potatoe vines!  (above)
Sorry I am a sucker for really great hanging baskets, especially ones that are almost as big as me!

Anyways, where was I, oh yeah, so Dorney Park has rides for kids of all age.  Above you can see us kickin' it on the school bus in Planet Snoopy!  But they have other great thrill rides, roller coasters, family rides and of course the water park.  Unfortuately the water park was closed when we attended, so I did not get to re-live my favorite ride from when I was a kid, maybe next time!
The only thing that I do not suggest to get is their funnel cake, as seen above.  It frankly stunk!  I was extremely thin & way too crispy....dislike.  I suggest you keep your $8.00 and spend it in the gift shop! ;)

You can check out Dorney Park's hours and what other great entertainment that they have to offer by going to their website, at www.dorneypark.com.  I am sure you and yours will have a great time like this smiling happy little one....
Oh, how she loves her trains!!

*this is not a paid advertisement, Buggie Sews is no way affiliated with Dorney Park.

Wordless Wednesday 10-19-2011 "Smell-o-vision"

I really wish there was such a thing as "smell-o-vision!"  Because this Peace rose smells Fabulous!!

Bonus to going back to work...weight loss!

So I am slowly coming to the end of my 4th week, of being back to work full time.  And not only am I still getting more things done, than I had back when I was a stay at home mom, but now I have noticed something else.....I'm loosing weight!!  Yeow!!  I'm not sure how, but it is disappearing, the scale is only down just a little; but my "size" is down, so I guess technically I am loosing "inches."  The cool thing is that I have not started a diet, and I have not been exercising.  Well, I do go for a walk here & there with my daughter, but nothing drastic, she is only 3 so we can't go too far.  Granted, I think it may have something to do with the fact that I am up and running from 7am till 10 pm, but I'm not hating it!

And strangely enough, I am eating more.  I think I heard somewhere that you loose more weight when you eat than when you starve?  Or something like that, I guess they were right.  Anywho, I probably have just jinxed myself since I just wrote about this, so I am going to now go and knock on some wood for good luck!

If anyone else has ever experienced this please fill me in!!  I would love to hear any and all weight loss stories!

Changing to a Working Mom Hasn't Apparently Slowed Me Down!

So as I mentioned before I have now gone from stay at home mom to working mom.  Yes, it has been a huge adjustment...but I am totally loving it!  For one thing I have noticed something very strange.  I have accomplished checking off more items on my to do list this week, with 40 hours work-plus 1 hr at least each day in travel time, then I have done my entire 1 1/2 years of being at home.  It may have something to do with not having access to facebook, which did suck alot of my time, but with the new changes on there I have been rarely keeping up with it anyways.  And don't get me wrong, alot of that time was running around after my now 3 year old, but I still have her with me when I am doing all of these projects, so who knows...but I am definitely liking it!

Have any of my stay at home mommies turn working mommies have this same thing happen to them?  Let me know?  I'd LOVE to hear your theories!

But no worries I am still trucking along with my Indie Biz, BuggieSews!  I'll be adding some new goodies in the next couple of weeks just in time for the Holidays!  ...think red & green!

Where Has The Time Gone?!!

i551.gif

So sorry for not posting in awhile, but this past week has been crazy!  Between appointments, job interviews, sewing, field trips and starting a new job, my life has been c-r-a-z-y!  But in a good way!  I swear, I am one of those people that can not seem to function unless I am doing 30 things at once.  So please bare with me.  Oh, and I have some new posts coming, and I am also collaborating with another blogger on a great idea, something that you, too, can join in with, if you want....stay tuned!! ;)

I'm a Part of Philly Burb Moms

For some of you who are new to my blog, you may not know that in addition to sewing and crafting I am actually a horticulturist.  I received my degree from Penn State University, and I LOVE gardening.  Next to raising my daughter, and doing crafts, gardening is one my greatest passions.  I grew up visiting my grandparents farm in Phoenixville, where not only did I learn to garden but I also learned how to bale hay....so not fun(and I'm talking the old fashioned way, not with these nice new fangled machines that throw the bales into wagons for you.)  Sorry I digressed, where was I, oh, yes, so back in January of this year I started contributing a gardening blog to Philly Burb Moms, which encompasses moms from Chester County, Montgomery County, and Delaware County, PA.  If you live in any of these areas or live close to them I highly suggest you check out these info-packed everything a mom needs to know and do blogs!  Oh, and not to forget to mention, they have a great calender of what to do in-town and nearby! ...plus they feature me, Gardening with Carrie.  (sorry, I know, I am partial!)

Movie Review: Taylor Lautner's 'Abduction'

Last night I had the extreme pleasure of being able to watch an advance screening of 'Abduction' featuring Taylor Lautner and Lily Collins.  First off, thank you Sarah Peppel for gifting me the 4 tickets, so that I could take my wonderful niece and two of her bff's to it.

(here's a pic of me & my niece at the red carpet)

The advance screening took place at a total of only 20 theatres, not only did we receive some great 'Abduction' swag, we were also treated to reserved seating, got to walk the red carpet AND we got to watch the LA Red-Carpet premiere live on the movie screen.  Yeah...it was really cool!

Here's a clip of 'Abduction's' trailer...

                                          (video credit: uTube)

Can I just say, again, that this movie was great!  And I am not just saying that because I am a Twilight fan (*swoon*.)  I must say I hate giving away movie plots, but basically it is about a young high school boy, played by Taylor, who finds out while researching a project for school, that he is on a Missing Persons internet site, when he does all heck breaks loose.

A major plus to this movie- is that it is actually realistic, yes, really.  You know how in movies two guys beat the crap out of each other & they never seem to get hurt?  Well, in this movie, Taylor, actually shakes his hand, like "ouch, this hurts" after hitting a guy in the face 10 times.  Then later in the movie he begins to limp after jumping down a long distance.  How many action movies have you watched that have shown a person jump down like 2 stories and show no pain...yeah, i know, alot.

Oh and one last cool thing about this movie...it takes place in Pittsburgh, Pa!  Like during a real Pirates game, so cool, I wish I knew about it, I so would of been there!  Apparently it was a sold out game, go figure!

So anywho, this is a great thriller, action packed movie!  Not only will the girls like it (Taylor fans) but so will your hubby.  The martial arts in this movie are sure to please any Bruce Lee movie lover!

'Abduction' will be released in theatres on September 23, I highly recommend seeing it!!

3 Year Olds And Doctors

So I just took my daughter to her now 3 year old "well check."  I was completely nervous, before she really didn't know or should I say remember what a doctor is or what they do(give shots, yikes.)   When she was 2 she was a tad bit scared, but did pretty well.  Now that she has turned 3, I was terrified that she was going to be scratching to get out of there.  But she did great!  *wiping sweat off brow*  And here is why....luckily my oh so smart mother got my daughter a Doctor's Kit for her birthday.  So my daughter already knew what the stethoscope was & how it was used, along with the thermometer, blood pressure gauge, etc.  She totally new what to expect, unlike me!  Tho, one thing that we need to practice was her breathing, she didn't know how to breath in and out deeply like her Doctor requested, we'll have to practice that for next year!  Anyway, here is the kit that my daughter was practicing playing with:
Fisher-Price Medical Kit

It is the Fisher Price Medical Kit, it sells for $11.99 at Target (which also happens to carry it for the cheapest price.) It has a stethoscope, thermometer, spring loaded syringe, blood pressure cuff, a ban-aid cuff and otoscope (the thingy they look in your ears with, & yes I had to google that one) all of which you can put in the included handy dandy doctors bag.  These are for imaginative play, one of 3 year old milestones. (wow i still cant believe she is 3.)

Now I am on the lookout for imaginative play dental instruments...stay tuned.

*Ain't no paid advertisement, just thought I'd share a great tip for making those doctor's visits a little less worrisome!*

Community Day...Success!!

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Royersford Community Day!  The event was a great success!!  I always love meeting new people, other vendor and especially NEW customers!

(this is a pic of the top of the street...so Patriotic, LOVED it!)

After weeks of rain it was great to finally have a sunny day!  The food was awesome!  Especially since we were located right across from Chick-Fil-a!!  Yummy!  Not to mention the car show.  I'm sure the husband will be tinkering with his Mustang after seeing some of these gorgeous cars, especially the Shelby Mustang.

A major thanks to my sissy, Linda, and my niece, Emily for all of their help!  I couldn't of done it without them, especially the tent.

(this is a pic of "my marker," aka my table goes here...)

Here is what my booth looked like, not bad for my first time!!

*Show Update*

Sorry for the lack of posts lately but i am covered in ruffles....yes, literally!

I've been mentally & physically preparing myself for a craft show and community day event in Royersford, Pa.   It is on Sept 10th from 10am to 3pm on Main Street!...hint hint -if you are in the area stop on bye!!!
So your probably asking yourself what is she making all of those ruffles for...

If you guessed ruffled digital camera strap covers, DING DING DING, you are correct!  I love them!  They are padded on the inside, so not only are they adorable but they prevent your camera strap from digging into the back of your neck.  (yes, I have a Nikon D80, they are heavy)

So before I head back to sewing here is a little somethin' somethin', that i have been working on for a wedding party, they want black and bling.

Have a great holiday!!

Post Hurricane #Irene

(Here's a pic of a frog who decided to come out &
weather the storm with us, we called her "Irene")

Luckily we were not affected as badly as the weatherman had fore casted.  We did get some water in the basement, but never did loose power, so we were able to use the shop vac to take care of it.  Yay!!  And other than a few small branches here and there, we do not have much to clean up.  I've heard some rumors that more storms are in the projected forecast, so I am thinking that we are just going to leave everything the way it is.  Just think, we are that much closer to not having to clean up for winter.  Bonus!  Here are a couple pics of how I couped with the constant tornado threats, wind and rain....

I got caught up on alot of sewing.....well maybe not "alot"...

And my hubby went out in the storm late Saturday and brought me back this:

A Vanilla sundae with Chocolate syrup and tons of whipped cream...yes, I am a "stress" eater!!

Hurricane #Irene

Tropical Depression Eight

Well Hurricane #Irene is headed for us, so my family and I have made all preparations that we can think of to be prepared for her hopefully "short" visit.  Several of our local gas stations are already running out of gas, and the grocery stores are insane.  (so thankful I went grocery shopping in the beginning of the week)  My husband just finished sharpening his chainsaw blades, though, I really hope that we will not need to use them. We've spent most of the past few days clearing out the back yard; lawn furniture, toys, etc.  Not to mention doing the dishes, running the laundry and vacuuming.  (you know, just in case we get any guests, hehe.)

But on a more serious note, the American Red Cross has a great site dedicated to preparing your home and family for any event, whether it is for a fire or preparing for a hurricane or earthquake.  Here's a link to the page that I have visited all to often in the past week, first for the earthquake and now for the hurricane.  They have a informative list that you can follow of all of the necessary needs that your family may need, just in case.

I've charged all of our phones, but if you don't see any posts from me for a few days just know that I will be back eventually.  And that more than likely our power is just out, and we are just sitting here chillin' till the power comes back.   My prayers go out to all of us on the East Coast.

Mother Nature

City map

Well things have been a little crazy around here, or should I say strange.  First Virgina had an 5.8 earthquake which was felt very easily here, in the suburbs of Philly.  It was felt by the President who was in Martha's Vineyard and was also felt as far south as North Carolina.  No, earthquakes are not very common here, in case you were wondering.  And now we get to look forward to Hurricane Irene this weekend.  As i write this the shore points in New Jersey are being evacuated, scary stuff, huh?  They are calling for 100 mph winds and 6 to 12 inches of rainfall, for us, even higher totals in North Carolina where it is to make landfall.  I am hoping and praying that this Hurricane looses some of her gusto as she descends upon us. Best of luck to everyone that maybe affected.

Trip To Tyler Arboretum

If you are ever in Delaware County and need a great place to take the kids, I highly suggest taking them to Tyler Arboretum, tylerarboretum.org. I was just there with my sister, my niece (16), my nephew (almost 9) and my daughter(almost 3), and we all had a blast...yes, even the 16 year old!

Tyler Arboretum is located in Media, Pa and encompasses a whopping total of 650 acres! (Only a few minutes outside of Chester County.) They have over 20 miles of marked nature trails, some of which have actually won awards. It is a great place to pack a lunch and picnic under one of their towering trees.

Quick History...Back in 1681 William Penn signed an agreement with Thomas Minshall, for the property that the Arboretum now occupies. The property was home to the Minshall, Painter and Tyler families. In 1944 Laura Tyler bequeathed the estate to the public as an arboretum.

The main route of the Arboretum is only a little over a mile to walk. It is very accessible by stroller, a plus, especially if you have little children. It takes you by their main exhibits, like their Magical Habitats, were the Gnomes are, see below..

They have several exhibits that house these little fellows. Not to mention fairies, hobbits, enchanted mushrooms & even frogs. My daughter, was searching this house (above) for yes, you guessed it, Gnomeo! Love it! They even have a station where you can stop and try to build your own fairy house. All of these little creature's homes were all made out of something from the woods.

Tyler Arboretum is also featuring 7 Totally Terrific Treehouses. All of which are amazing! Some have some great views and one even had musical instruments which the children could play with till their hearts content. Pictured below is their Cape May Birdhouse Treehouse, my favorite!

But do not be afraid to vary off of your path. We actually walked back to the edge of the property and got to see a Giant Sequoia tree. I had to see it, just in case I never get to make it out to California. Here's a pic...

Now unfortunately a thief, back in 1895 had topped this giant, and took it home for his Christmas Tree. This caused the tree to develop a double trunk. But this specimen is the tallest of its kind in the state of Pennsylvania! Pretty cool, huh? And it is practically right in our backyard!

Tyler Arboretum's Mission: "..To preserve, develop and share our diverse horticultural, historical and natural site resources in order to stimulate stewardship and an understanding of our living world."

I hope you enjoyed this little taste of what Tyler Arboretum offers and hopefully it has inspired you to take your family on a quick little visit!
